Vandals leave trail of damaged cars in Lockerbie street

Vandals left a trail of damaged cars in a Lockerbie street in the early hours of Tuesday.

Seven vehicles in Sydney Place were left with long scratch marks on paintwork after being “keyed”.

The damage is expected to costs thousands of pounds in repairs.

One victim, bus driver Alan Murray, said: “I was raging when I discovered the damage. I hate vandalism, it’s pathetic.

“People work hard for things in life and then you get this happening.

“They scratched my passenger side back door with a key or something and all my neighbours have had their cars done as well.

“I can’t patch it up and now I’m faced with the prospect of having to pay £150 excess on my insurance to get it fixed and then my insurance will go up.”

Mr Murray thinks the vandals struck sometime in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

He added: “I let the dog out at half 10 and then went to bed. I never heard anything then I was up at 5am. Some of the neighbours have said they heard voices in the street after midnight.

“Every car along here has got foot long scratches and some have been keyed more than once.”

Nearby resident Georgina Carter put out an appeal on Facebook for anyone with CCTV covering the street after waking up to find that her car had been scratched.

And another residents of the street, Doreen Kerr commented that the damage to her vehicle would cost £480 to repair.

A police spokesperson said: “There were seven vehicles in total damaged, all scratched in the same manner. If anyone saw anything please contact us on 101.”
