Vance Trolled After Meeting With Indian Prime Minister Following Pope Francis' Death: 'Please Don't Kill This One Too'

Vice President JD Vance met with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday, the same day Pope Francis died only hours after meeting with Vance, prompting the internet to pray for Modi's health.

While the Vatican has firmly stated that Pope Francis' passing was due to natural causes, the timing — within hours of holding a private audience with Vance — launched a wave of dark humor as social media users jokingly accused Vance of playing a part in the death. When Vance posted about his meeting with the prime minister, it became instant fodder.

Users offered mock prayers for Modi's health, with comments like "Wishing PM Modi good health. Just to be safe..." and "JD, he better not die."

Others jokingly assumed it was too late. "He's claiming another victim," one wrote, with another user predicting, "Tomorrow: Indian Prime Minister Mysteriously Dies After JD Vance Visit."

"He will be missed!" quipped another, with someone else adding, "Don't forget to take a detour through Russia on the way back."

Vance, who converted to Catholicism in 2019, has yet to publicly acknowledge the meme storm. His office released a standard statement emphasizing the importance of US-India relations, describing his visit with Modi as "warm and productive."

The Vice President has been a popular target of internet memes, but has yet to respond to the latest cycle.
