Vance Calls on DOGE to Rehire 25-Year-Old Worker Who Bragged About Being a 'Racist' in Recent Tweets: 'Stupid Social Media Activity' Shouldn't 'Ruin a Kid's Life'

Vice President JD Vance is urging DOGE to rehire 25-year-old Marko Elez, who resigned after recent racist tirades posted online resurfaced, arguing that "stupid social media activity shouldn't ruin a kid's life."

"Here's my view: I obviously disagree with some of Elez's posts, but I don't think stupid social media activity should ruin a kid's life," Vance tweeted Friday. "We shouldn't reward journalists who try to destroy people. Ever. So I say bring him back. If he's a bad dude or a terrible member of the team, fire him for that."

Elez, who previously worked for SpaceX and Starlink, was identified by The Wall Street Journal as the owner of a now-deleted X account, @nullllptr, which featured racist posts and advocacy for eugenics.

"Just for the record, I was racist before it was cool," one post allegedly read. "I would not mind at all if Gaza and Israel were both wiped off the face of the Earth."

Vance made his plea in a retweet of Elon Musk's poll, which asked users whether Elez should be reinstated at DOGE. The poll results leaned in Elez's favor, yet it's important to note studies found fake accounts are "proliferating" on Musk's X.

Elez resigned after facing White House scrutiny, just hours after a court ruled that he and a fellow DOGE employee could still access the Treasury Department's payment system, but with restrictions barring them from altering or sharing sensitive data.

Musk's DOGE initiative is under fire: it's accused of leaking sensitive data into AI, is facing multiple lawsuits, including a judge blocking its access to Labor Department records, and is trying to dismantle USAID, the world's largest humanitarian aid donor.
