LA Rams star Van Jefferson became a father hours after winning the Super Bowl.
The 25-year-old was part of the team that triumphed 23-20 over the Cincinnati Bengals in front of their home crowd at the SoFi Stadium last night.
This marked the franchise’s second Super Bowl triumph, 22 years after their first victory.
Jefferson experienced the most successful moment of his career last night, but one of the greatest moments of his life would take place soon after.
The wide receiver’s wife Samaria Jefferson, went into labour whilst watching her husband play in the biggest game of the year.
The Rams were trailing the Bengals 20-16 deep in the fourth quarter when Samaria was seen leaving the stadium on a stretcher and heading to a local hospital, where she would give birth.
He took to his Instagram stories and shared a sweet photo of him beaming with pride while holding his newborn son, along with the caption: "x2!!!", referring to either his second child or his second magnificent moment of the day.
Samira, who has been with Van since high school and already has a daughter, was due to give birth on February 17, but was prepared for the possibility of becoming a mother earlier than planned.
“I’m feeling pretty good — I’m definitely feeling 40 weeks (pregnant),” she told The Athletic this week.
“I’m definitely feeling the pressure and the pain. Nerves for Van, nerves for our family — but it’s OK.”
Before the game, the Rams’ wide receiver commented on what proved to be a very exciting day.
“I’m excited about it,” he said.
“Excited to play in the Super Bowl as well. … Two things going on. I’m happy about both of them.
"Maybe he can wait just a little bit longer, until after the Super Bowl!”
Jefferson’s son clearly was very keen to experience his father’s special day and during an Instagram live stream, the star commented on his epic day.
"It was a great day, bro. I got three prizes today. My wife, my son and the Super Bowl," he said proudly.
Jefferson caught four of eight targets for 23 yards in the Rams' win, to the delight of the team’s fans in attendance.
The Rams overcame Odell Beckham Jr's momentum-sapping knee injury with Cooper Kupp named the night's MVP while QB Matthew Stafford became the sixth player in NFL history to throw for 6,000 yards in a single season.
The franchise's second Super Bowl triumph came thanks to a late turnaround led by Stafford and Kupp.
