Van involved in accident in Jawadhu Hills found burnt

A van that was involved in an accident that killed eleven people, including three children, from Puliyur, a tribal hamlet in Jawadhu Hills, was found burnt on Sunday at the same spot where it had rolled down the previous day.

The police said the van belonged to S. Palani, a resident in Pudur Nadu village, and he allowed the victims to take it for their visit to a temple in the hills as part of Ugadi celebrations on Saturday.

The van driver was S. Parasuraman, who was also injured in the accident. Due to overloading, the van fell into the gorge from the rocky pathway, killing 11 persons and injuring over 20.

The Tirupattur taluk police, who rushed to the spot on Saturday, left the damaged van at the accident spot as the rescue operation went on till late evening.

On Sunday, a few residents in Pudur Nadu village found the van burnt completely. They alerted the police, and a case has been registered by the Tirupattur taluk police. Investigation is on, the police said.
