Crash investigators have appealed for information after a driver suffered serious injuries when a recovery van left a motorway slip road and hit a tree.
Cheshire Police said the vehicle was found on its side on an embankment of the exit of the M56 westbound at junction 12 for Runcorn and Frodsham on Thursday.
A force spokeswoman said the yellow van had hit a tree.

She said police at this stage do not believe any other vehicles were involved in the collision.
The driver, a 41-year-old man from the Birmingham area, was taken to Aintree University Hospital by ambulance and remains in a “serious condition”.
The collision was reported to police at 10.30am.
Cheshire Police reported at the time that the casualty’s injuries were believed to be serious.
Five fire engines and a major rescue unit were deployed by Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service to free the driver.

PC Eoin Anderson, from Cheshire Constabulary ’s Roads and Crime Unit, said: “At this stage we are unsure how the collision occurred and are appealing for witnesses or anyone who may have information to come forward.
“Perhaps you saw the van travelling on the M56 that morning or have dash cam footage that could assist us in piecing together what has happened.
“Any information – no matter how small – could really assist with our investigation.”
