Van driver arrested after pedestrian killed in east London A13 crash

A van driver has been arrested after a pedestrian in his 30s was struck and killed late on Wednesday morning on a major road in West Ham.

Police were called shortly after 11.15am to reports a van had collided with a pedestrian on the westbound A13, near to the Beckton Flyover.

Officers and paramedics were sent to the scene along with an air ambulance, but despite the best efforts of emergency responders the man tragically died at the scene.

Officers were working to inform his next of kin on Wednesday afternoon.

The driver of the van stopped at the scene and was arrested. He remains in custody at an east London police station.
