South Africa's Sheldon van der Linde has edged out Supercars young gun Broc Feeney in the top 10 shootout to claim pole position for the Bathurst 12-Hour endurance race.

Linde (Team WRT) set a 2:01.981 lap time in his BMW at Mount Panorama on Saturday, coming out on top by 0.256s from Feeney.

Belgian drivers Charles Weerts and Dries Vanthoor will share driving duties in the BMW M4 GT3 with Linde in Sunday's race.

"I have massive goosebumps right now," said 24-year-old Linde, who finished fourth last year and will be competing against his older brother Kelvin in the race.

"To be on pole here in my second running in Bathurst is unexpected for sure.

"My brother is here trying to catch me in the race so the pressure is on.

"There's a bit of gravel on the side of car so I was really trying to push."

Feeney's National Storage Mercedes-AMG will line up next to Team WRT in the front row after he was unable to convert his provisional pole, while Maro Engel (GruppeM Mercedes-AMG) and Matt Campbell (Manthey EMA Porsche) were third and fourth.

Luca Stolz, sharing the SunEnergy1 Mercedes-AMG with fellow defending champions Jules Gounon and Kenny Habul, was 0.458s down in fifth.

Eariler, Feeney had laid down the gauntlet in qualifying by clocking the first 2:01 lap of the weekend.

It is the third time the 21-year-old Feeney has claimed second spot on the grid at the mountain circuit, having done so at last year's 12-hour endurance race and the Bathurst 1000.

"Look, I am happy," Feeney said.

"The laps here are crazy in qualifying. It's hard work across the top of mountain.

"I didn't have enough speed for that BMW then but we'll go for it tomorrow."

New Supercars teammate Will Brown will share the driving with Feeney and Canadian racer Mikael Grenier.

Fellow Supercars stars Chaz Mostert, Thomas Randle, Cameron Waters and David Reynolds missed out on a top 10 spot.
