Van crushed after multi-vehicle crash on M62

Shocking images have showed a driver's lucky escape following a motorway crash this morning.

The M62 westbound was blocked with traffic stopped due to a multi-vehicle crash from J11 to J10, near Warrington, on Wednesday morning. Traffic was held from 6.15am with long delays as a result.

Emergency services were called out to reports of the crash, but North West Motorway Police has since shared shocking images of one of the damaged vehicles on their social media page. Sharing the images, they wrote: "Some photographs of the scene from the rtc this morning on the M62, thankfully no injuries."

The back of the red van can be seen completely crushed, with its number plate almost destroyed. Many people on social media were quick to comment on the "lucky" escape.

Traffic officers were in attendance as delays of over 60 minutes, and eight miles of congestion were reported. National Highways posted on social media on Wednesday morning that there had been a "multi-vehicle collision" and traffic monitoring system Inrix reported that congestion caused delays in surrounding areas such as Lowton and Leigh.

The incident, which was cleared by around 9.30am, also resulted in slow traffic on the eastbound carriageway as onlookers slowed down to have a look, Cheshire Live reports.

A Cheshire Police spokesperson said: "At 6.12am today (Wednesday, October 12) police received a report of a collision on the M62 between junction 11 to junction 10 involving two vehicles. There were no injuries reported and police officers supported Highways England with managing the traffic."
