Van Bronckhorst 'set to become Besiktas manager' 14 months after Rangers exit

Giovanni van Bronckhorst is finally set to return to management 14 months after being sacked as Rangers manager, according to a report.

The Dutchman, 48, is reportedly in talks to become the manager of Turkish club Besiktas.

It's claimed Van Bronckhorst has held discussions with the European giants but one stumbling block remains before an appointment can be made.

And that comes in the availability of Jean-Paul van Gastel to become Van Bronckhorst's assistant at Besiktas.

Van Gastel is wanted by Van Bronckhorst but the coach is currently manager at NAC Breda in the Netherlands.

However, according to reports in the Netherlands, NAC Breda are currently blocking a move with the manager not yet allowed to leave.

Outlet VI reports Besiktas chiefs are willing to pay a lump sum to land Van Gastel and finalise an appointment for Van Bronckhorst.

Journalist Joost Blaauwhof stated: "Giovanni van Bronckhorst is well on his way to becoming coach of Besiktas.

"Only NAC Breda is still blocking the appointment. Jean-Paul van Gastel has to go to Turkey, but is not allowed to leave (yet).

"Turks willing to pay a lump sum, Van Gastel is eager to take the step."

It comes after Van Bronckhorst landed a shock new job as a fashion brand ambassador.

The Dutchman has joined forces with Blue Rivet, a jeans brand for men, with a focus on a clean style, a clear product range and a high growth potential.

Van Bronckorst has been out of work since he was sacked by Rangers in November last year after falling nine points behind Celtic and a disastrous Champions League campaign that set unwanted records after six defeats.

He did however lead Rangers to a Europa League Final and a Scottish Cup success the previous season, but he is yet to return to management since moving on from Glasgow.
