Van Bronckhorst hints at Rangers tactical rethink ahead of Liverpool rematch

GIOVANNI van Bronckhorst has hinted at a tactical rethink ahead of Rangers' Champions League match against Liverpool.

The Ibrox boss admitted his side must be more positive if they are to pick up points in the final three matches of the group stage.

Rangers are currently rooted to the bottom of Group A with no goals so far. But Van Bronckhorst is hopeful his side can turn their fortunes with an upset against Liverpool at a packed Ibrox on Wednesday night.

“It is a big test against a good team and they showed that in midweek," said Van Bronckhorst of the upcoming Liverpool match.

“We have to have a different approach in this game especially if we want to continue our run in Europe.

“We have to get points in the three games we have left so we will have to have a different approach and we have to be positive.

“We are at home and we have been strong here and we showed that against Napoli.

“It took three penalties and a red card before we conceded the goals.

“We will prepare well to face a strong opponent but we need to get something from the game.

“Can we afford to be more high risk? You have to be brave.

“In the second half we had moments where we were and we had one against one when we pressed high against Liverpool.

“When we won the ball we could have been more dangerous in the last ten or 15 minutes.

“We have to try to be dangerous and create chances earlier in this game.”

As well as contemplating a system switch for the Champions League tie, Van Bronckhorst is also still weighing up his striker selection. Alfredo Morelos started at Anfield but Antonio Colak staked a claim with another domestic double against St Mirren on Saturday.

On the major decision, Van Bronkhorst commented: “Will Colak or Morelos play? We have three days to prepare for Liverpool and I always look at what the game needs and what we need from the game.

“I will think about it in the coming days and we will look to pick a team to get a positive result.”
