Van Bronckhorst confident Rangers are well prepared for PSV Champions League clash

Van Bronckhorst confident Rangers are well prepared for PSV Champions League clash

RANGERS manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst is confident that the Ibrox side are well prepared for Tuesday night’s crucial UEFA Champions League play-off against PSV Eindhoven after their domestic hammering of St Johnstone.

The Perthshire side were duly brushed aside at Ibrox yesterday afternoon with Rangers now able to turn their full attention on the demands that the Dutch side will bring to Glasgow.

“We have just played, but we have had the preparation of two days’ rest between games many times,” said van Brockhorst.  “We had it many times last season.

“So for me, the most important thing now is to keep everyone fresh for Tuesday evening. We will prepare the game well tactically in the meetings we have. It is a big game for us, for both teams that is the case because the group stages are at stake.

“It will be good to see Ruud [van Nistelrooy] again, it has been a while. He has good experience of PSV through the academy. It will also be good to see Fred Rutten. He was my head coach for one year at Feyenoord before I took over.

“We have been involved in football for many years, but when the whistle goes it is game time and we need to make sure we do everything we can in the two games to go through.”

Interestingly, van Brockhorst also shied away from any suggestion that he would be prepared to start with a two-pronged strike force. Antonio Colak netted his third goal for the club with Alfredo Morelos starting on the bench against Saints.

“Antonio gives us the goals upfront,” he said. “Of course we bought him this season and if you compare it with last year, the last months we didn’t have strikers. So I’m really pleased with Antonio, with his performances. “Alfredo Morelos is back after five months, so he needs time to get stronger.

“I never played with two strikers I think. No. Maybe only why you have to force things and that is what I like from this squad the competition we have in all areas.”
