Valorant could be getting a console beta in the near future if a recent job listing from Riot Games is anything to go by.
Valorant is one of the most popular FPS games around, with Riot Games' 5v5 tactical hero shooter first launching back in June 2020 following a two-month closed beta period prior to launch. The free-to-play title, which recently added a brand new Agent to its roster following the launch of Episode 7, is currently only available on PC.
As such, players have long been calling for the game to be launched on PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S consoles, pretty much since it was first released. Prayers could soon be answered, with a recent job listing on the official Riot Games website hinting that a Valorant console playtest could be on the horizon.
Valorant console-ation
Based in Los Angeles, Riot is recruiting an associate console playtest analyst, with the person in this role tasked to "focus on validation testing of upcoming gameplay experiences for Valorant". Listed in responsibilities, Riot detail that this role will have to "manage test plans for future tests and defects uncovered during playtests".
Also, among the list of required qualifications is for the person to have "played console FPS games at a professional level" and to be "currently ranked Immortal or higher in Valorant". This follows a previous job listing last year for a 'senior game designer, console'.
Of course, these job postings don't exactly prove that anything is imminent in regards to a Valorant console release, but it does hint pretty heavily that it's at least in the works. Valorant executive producer Anna Donlon stated earlier this year that the publisher is currently working on 'bringing Valorant to new platforms' but that "it's going slower than we'd hoped".
It's also worth noting that Riot already has a partnership with Microsoft and Xbox, with Xbox Game Pass subscribers getting bonus goodies in the free-to-play titles Valorant, League of Legends and Teamfight Tactics. Within Valorant, members are awarded all agents in the game pre-unlocked.
As of yet, Riot has yet to confirm any details around a potential console version of Valorant, so we don't have any sort of confirmed release date right now, but there's still hope that it might drop sometime in 2023.
