An elderly couple celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in style earlier this week, marking Valentine's Day with a message from the Queen.
Andrew and Jean Kyle tied the knot in Park Church in Airdrie on February 14, 1962.
And on Monday, Andrew, 82, and Jean, 80, from Clarkston in Airdrie were surrounded by cards, flowers and gifts from their love ones.
The devoted couple have been smitten ever since they met at the Cliftonhill Dance Hall in Quarry Street, Coatbridge, as teenagers.
Jean told Lanarkshire Live : “We met when I was 15 and Andrew was 17.
“I thought he was the quiet man, as he would sit in the corner and not be as forthcoming as the other young men at taking me up to dance - he'd just sit and wait his turn.
“But he made his feelings clear when someone else offered to walk me to the bus stop. At first I felt I was too young for anything serious, but he was smitten with me from the start.
“He used to cycle from Bellshill to accompany me home from work and to take me to the dancing, even though he didn't enjoy it as much as I did.”
And it was love at first sight for the couple, who after a brief courtship, tied the knot on Valentine's Day 1962.
Jean added: “The minister told him we were the perfect match because he was quiet and I was chatty, so we balanced each other out.”
The lovebirds then moved to Petersburn where they raised their family, before settling in Clarkston.
Originally from Bellshill, Andrew attended Noble Primary and Bellshill Academy, and after leaving school, worked as a template maker for Colville Construction.
he then went on to become a firefighter in Lanarkshire for over 30 years and was appointed station officer at Coatbridge fire station.
After retiring from the service at the age of 54, he became a fire safety officer at the Southern General Hospital until 1993 when he finally hung up his helmet.
Andrew is a keen bowler and the couple are both members of Coatbridge Indoor Bowling Club and Caldercraig outdoor club.
He was also a bowling umpire and served as secretary for both Scotland and the Lanarkshire district.
He is a whisky connoisseur and enjoys a nice malt whisky and watching western movies.
Jean, from Airdrie, attended Chapelside Primary and Airdrie Academy and after leaving school worked as a comptometer operator at Matthew Thom in Airdrie, before she left to raise her family.
She then went on to work in the town’s Boots factory, where she stayed for two decades until her retirement.
She is also a keen bowler and an expert knitter, and in her spare time enjoys knitting cardigans for premature babies at Wishaw General.
She is also a great cook and baking enthusiast, and an avid sports fan.
The couple have two daughters, Wilma and Wendy, two grandchildren, Ross and Emma, and two great grandchildren, Leah and Harry, and are both devout members of their local parish Jackson Church.
The secret to their 60 years of wedded bliss has been “give and take,” “patience” and being there for one other with “a lot of laughter and a lot of bowling,” said Jean.
To celebrate their anniversary the couple enjoyed a family dinner at their favourite restaurant surrounded by their loved ones.
Granddaughter Emma Busby told us : “As a family we went for dinner to the Tudor Hotel, Airdrie together.
“They had their visit from the Lord Provost and also had a lovely card from the Queen and now they are spending the afternoon with our family.”
Andrew and Jean would like to thank their family, friends and well-wishers for all their lovely cards, stunning floral bouquets and gifts to mark the occasion.
