The final format for the competition required surfers to achieve three race wins out of a total of six races. The top qualifier from the earlier rounds automatically advanced to the final with two race wins, while the second-place qualifier earned one win.
Bontus, who had qualified from the semifinals, entered the final without any wins to his name. Despite this, he delivered a stellar performance, winning all three races and securing the gold medal at the earliest opportunity.
In a closely contested final, Slovenia's Toni Vodišek, the top qualifier, settled for the silver medal, while Singapore's Max Maeder, the second-placed qualifier, claimed the bronze.
