VA: government shutdown won’t affect medical services for vets; local Kentucky programs could paus

If Congress can’t agree on a continuing resolution by midnight Saturday, the federal government will shut down. There’s good news for veterans, though, thousands of whom receive some or all of their health care at VA medical centers, clinics and vet centers. According to a VA contingency plan, those services will be unaffected, as doctors, nurses and others will work without pay. The plan also states that benefits will continue to be processed and delivered. However, regional benefits offices will close and some programs will pause, like outreach to veterans and career counseling.
