'Utterly awful' Rangers signing gets it in the neck as Celtic told to get real over next manager shortlist – Hotline

Celtic's search for a new manager and the ongoing rebuild at Rangers is more than enough to create a bit of Hotline tit-for-tat as fans continue their close-season spats.

Maybe it's the warm weather as there are a few callers getting hot under the collar with the search for a new Hoops gaffer top of their list. Gary Stevenson, Newtonhill, said: "I think that maybe the Celtic supporters should calm down a bit. All those famous names mentioned as potential managers are pie in the sky. It's time to make up your new list of people who you have never heard of. Stop trying to behave like a big club."

Eddie Easson, Ballingry, said: "I don’t think there will be any movement on a new Celtic manager until next week. Celtic will be doing their due diligence and the right candidate will be chosen properly. I want someone who plays fast flowing football in the same style as Ange Postecoglou. Whoever it is will have to overcome the master coaches in Scotland who just want to pack their defences so they can put taking a point from Celtic on their CV."

Muir Fulton, Ayr, emailed: "Celtic fans keep going on about their tainted Trebles. How many Trebles did they win in the past 10 years when Rangers were wrongly put down the leagues? We have taken our medicine and also showed we are the greatest supporters in the world with 50,000 at every game and now I believe next year will be a level playing field again and we will see how many trebles are won moving forward."

Andrew Lamb, Fraserburgh, emailed: "I really couldn't care less who the next Celtic manager is. I simply hope Michael Beale's new-look Rangers side will blow Celtic away next season and shut up their gloating fans."

John Robertson, South Queensferry, said: "If Brendan Rodgers went back to Celtic, we know he would jump ship again if a big English club came calling. It would be a club like Lincoln City or York City as that's his real level."

Henry Moffat, Stirling, emailed: "Here comes the annual next season Rangers boasts about all their great free transfer championship rejects and what they will do. Jack Butland has been utterly awful at his last three clubs before being dropped. Celtic will be back with a better manager, big money upgrades and Champions League football to continue their dominance over the Champions League's worst ever club."

Robert Livingstone, Palm Beach, emailed: "Beale's list of potential recruits has names aplenty but you must wonder why he's scouring the globe for half dozen unknown foreign imports instead of looking at the SPFL, I've seen plenty Scottish Premiership players more than good enough to be in the Rangers team, can't understand why Beale's not interested. Throwing a brand new side on the park with a fair number of foreign players who've never played on Scottish grounds may not be the instant fix that fans expect."

Bill Park, Bathgate, said: "Bringing in new players is always a risk, no matter what they cost. I like the look of Beale's signings so far and his priority now must be a consistent striker. If required, Borna Barisic and Ianis Hagi could be sold as Rangers now look much stronger in the positions they play in."

Paul Price, Belfast, said: "I was delighted to get a mention in Thursday's Hotline from Frank McFerran from Carrick who seems to be a decent soul spud for a Rangers man. I look forward to some healthy debates with you next season, Frankie."

Alan Lough, Dunbar, said: "For all the money that Saudi Arabia is throwing at football, one major factor above all else should be taken seriously. The greatest player in history knocked it back because he saw playing football in the " sunshine state " in America as his best and only option. He didn't even consider the Middle East. Simple really."

Neil Renton, Edinburgh, said: "I don’t get all this ‘West Ham winning a European trophy is the stuff of fairytales’ nonsense. They‘ve spent about £150million on that team. Imagine if a Scottish team did that? We’d maybe win a game in Europe."
