Uttarakhand: The Uttarakhand police have cleared the debris near Gulabkoti in the Joshimath area on the Badrinath National Highway, which was blocked due to debris after the landslide on Thursday.
A video released by the Chamoli Police on X showed that the road has been opened for vehicular movement.
Earlier, the Badrinath National Highway was closed at Pagal Nala and Gulabkoti due to falling boulders and debris from the hillside. The falling debris was due to the continuous rain that has lashed the Chamoli district.
The Chamoli police also announced that the blocked road near Pagalnala has been opened for all types of vehicles as of Thursday morning.
Earlier on July 24, Uttrakhand police launched an operation to clear debris from the Gangotri national highway near the Uttrakashi-Bishanpur area, which was blocked on July 23 due to heavy rain and a landslide.
The traffic resumed after the operation.
On Sunday too, the same highway was blocked for around eight hours, starting at 6 a.m., due to a massive landslide in Bishanpur. The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) restored the highway on Sunday around 3 p.m.
Heavy rains in parts of Uttarakhand over the past few days have triggered landslides in the hills, with the highway to Badrinath blocked at many points by rubble on several occasions. (with Agency inputs)
