Woman set on fire by husband in Badaun, dies

Badaun:  A 40-year-old woman was set on fire by her husband allegedly after she objected to drinking in the Mujaria area of Badaun district in Uttar Pradesh.

Police sources said Munish Saxena, a resident of Nethua village, is an alcoholic and used to thrash his wife Shanno very often.

"On Thursday night, Shanno once again objected to Munish consuming liquor. On this, the accused poured inflammable substance on her and set her on fire," they said.

Police sources said that Shanno's mother-in-law, Munni Devi (70) sustained burn injuries when she attempted to douse the flame.

"When the couple's sons Sunny (8) and Arjun (5) raised the alarm, the neighbours rushed to the spot and doused the flames, but by that time Shanno was dead," they said.

"The mother-in-law of the deceased has sustained burn injuries and has been admitted to the district hospital," he said. (UNI)
