Utah teenager who disappeared in Mexico City found unharmed; FBI arrests her uncle

The American 14-year-old teenager who had disappeared in Mexico City last week, Elizabeth González, was found unharmed in another state, the FBI announced.

Authorities added that an uncle of hers has been arrested in relation to the case on kidnapping charges. 31-year-old Antonio Moreno, who also lives in Utah, traveled to Mexico with González and his two daughters.

He didn't ask permission to González's mother to leave the country with her and was with them when they were found. In fact, the FBI had already issued a federal arrest warrant against him before they were found. The agency detailed it will start an extradition process regarding Moreno.

González, an American citizen, had last been seen in the San Juan Tlihuaca neighborhood on June 30. An Amber Alert was activated the following day.

González's mother, Alma Soreque, said she spoke with her daughter on the day she disappeared. She then received a call from family members saying she had gone to a nearby store to get a soda but never returned.

FBI Special Agent Steven Hymas told a local ABC affiliate that authorities saw a video showing an adult manipulating González to get into a taxi. It added it believed Moreno could have manipulated her to get in the car.
