The Jazz are signing guard Jordan Clarkson to a new three-year, $55 million contract, The Athletic’s Shams Charania reported Sunday morning.
Clarkson was originally a second-round draft pick by the Lakers in 2014 and was traded to the Cavaliers in 2018. Cleveland then traded Clarkson to Utah in ’19, and he has spent the past 3 1/2 seasons in Utah. He was named NBA Sixth Man of the Year for the 2020-21 season.
Last year, the point guard had a career year, averaging 20.8 points and 4.4 assists per game while playing a career high 32.6 minutes per game in 61 appearances (all starts), taking the reins of the offense after the team traded Donovan Mitchell to Cleveland.
Entering the offseason, Clarkson opted into the fourth year of the $51 million deal he originally signed with Utah in 2020. The 32-year-old’s new pact will supplant the previous contract, under which he was slated to earn $14.3 million next season.
