The Utah Hockey Club has announced three finalists for its permanent team name for the 2025-26 NHL season. The finalists are the Utah Mammoth, Utah Hockey Club, and Utah Wasatch. The final team name will be decided through fan voting.
Initially, the club intended to include Yeti as a finalist; however, due to trademark issues with Yeti Coolers, it was replaced by Wasatch. Yeti Coolers holds a unique trademark preventing the use of the word 'Yeti' in branding and merchandising.
The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office rejected the club's request to use the name 'Yeti,' citing potential confusion with existing brands like Yeti Coolers. The club will now proceed with the three remaining options for the team name.
Fans attending the next four home games will have the opportunity to vote for their preferred team name and logo using designated iPad stations at the Delta Center. The voting will take place during games against Pittsburgh, Columbus, St. Louis, and Philadelphia.
The team will unveil the final team name, logo, jerseys, and branding associated with the chosen name before the start of the 2025-26 NHL season. Wasatch, one of the finalists, pays homage to the Wasatch Mountains that run along the east side of the Salt Lake Valley.
The Utah Hockey Club aims to incorporate a Utah-centric theme into the team name, reflecting the local geography and culture. The team is committed to engaging fans in the decision-making process and creating a brand that resonates with the community.
Stay tuned for the official announcement of the Utah Hockey Club's permanent team name and logo as the 2025-26 NHL season approaches.
