USMNT take key step toward Auston Trusty decision over Arsenal player

Arsenal loanee Auston Trusty could be in contention to make his USMNT debut after impressing in the Championship with Birmingham City.

Trusty, 24, joined the Blues in the summer on a season-long loan after arriving at the Gunners last year. The centre-back has made 37 appearances for John Eustace's side, missing only one game all season and has been ever present in Blues' backline.

The American's performances in the West Midlands have earned him plenty of praise this season, with Eustace expressing his desire for turning his temporary move into a permanent one at the end of the season.

Trusty is yet to make a senior appearance for the United States of America despite appearing reguarly at youth level. However, this season's displays could be a turning point for the former Colorado Rapids man.

According to The Athletic, USMNT assistant coach B.J Callaghan recently attended Blues' league defeat to Norwich City to scout Trusty ahead of the upcoming international break. The U.S will face Grenada (March 24) and El Salvador (March 27) in the CONCACAF Nations League - their first fixtures since the World Cup.

Callagan has reportedly been part of a number of staff members to visit England over the last fortnight, with interim manager Anthony Hudson watching Chelsea's Christian Pulisic and other London-based players.

Trusty will be monitoring Hudson's squad announcement in the coming days with an eagle-eye after missing out on Gregg Berhalter's 26-man World Cup roster in November. "Would have loved to be on the plane, but all in Gods timing. Wishing all the best to the @USMNT squad in Qatar! Make us all proud! USA,” Trusty wrote on Twitter accompanied by an emoji of the United States flag.
