'Used up all their luck' - Liverpool sent blunt Sadio Mane concern as Mohamed Salah boost identified

Liverpool have been warned by one of their former players that they will have a 'tough season'.

The Reds managed to win two major trophies last term with the FA Cup and Carabao Cup. However, up until the final week of the campaign, an unprecedented quadruple was on the cards. In the end, Liverpool finished just short in the Premier League title race and lost the Champions League final to Real Madrid.

This summer has seen Jurgen Klopp sanction the exit of Sadio Mane. Liverpool agreed a £35million deal with Bayern Munich for the forward, whose six-year stint on Merseyside has come to an end.

Former Liverpool midfielder Didi Hamann feels last seasons disappointments, coupled with Mane’s exit, means his old club are likely to endure a difficult campaign

“Liverpool need to win the Premier League or Champions League in order to have a successful season, but without Sadio Mane, I'm not sure that it's possible,” the German told Genting Casino.

“It's going to be a tough season psychologically for Liverpool after what happened last season. They were 15 minutes from winning the league and used up all their luck on the way to the Champions League final.

“The two biggest trophies eluded them and I think psychologically it'll be very hard for Jurgen Klopp what they did last season can't be better.”

Hamann also thinks that Liverpool could 'easily' hand a new contract to Mohamed Salah, as negotiations rumble on. The Egyptian and his representatives have been locked in negotiations for several months with the club, and are yet to reach an agreement.

Despite the lack of updates on Salah’s future, Hamann believes the 30-year-old still has plenty of time to make a decision. The former Red also commented on how two of Liverpool’s latest signings could fare this season.

“Liverpool could easily give Mo Salah a two or three-year contract because I'm not sure if he'd go to a club like Real Madrid given the history in the Champions League,” said Hamann.

“Salah doesn't have to make decisions now. He's still got a year left on his contract and can make a choice in three or six months' time.

“Luis Diaz signed last year but it remains to be seen whether he can perform for a full season and Darwin Nunez is a really talented player but coming to the Premier League is a different kettle of fish.”
