It’s been a season of discontent in Los Angeles.
USC started 6–0, but was soon done in by one of the nation’s worst defenses. The Trojans were shelled by Notre Dame in South Bend on Oct. 14, before being taken down by longtime nemesis Utah in a shootout a week later.
Despite everything, USC continues to have a chance against every team in the country. And that is because of quarterback Caleb Williams.
On Saturday during the Trojans’ game against Washington, Williams demonstrated the toolkit that made him the Heisman Trophy winner in 2022. Particularly highlight-worthy was a handoff to wide receiver Zachariah Branch where Branch reversed field, pitched the ball back to Williams and watched his quarterback hit wide receiver Tahj Washington in stride for a 41-yard touchdown.

The inspired play call fooled the Huskies’ defense and staked USC to a 28–21 lead with 4:04 left in the first half, and made a compelling case for Williams as a candidate to once again take home college football’s highest individual honor.
