USC Main Campus Reopens After Protest Encampment Cleared

Students build a protest encampment in support of Palestinians at USC

The University of Southern California's main campus has reopened to students, faculty, and staff following the clearance of a protest encampment by the Los Angeles Police Department and school law enforcement. To enter the University Park campus, individuals must present valid school identification, as per USC officials.

A strict policy is in place prohibiting tents and related equipment on campus, with immediate confiscation for those found in violation. This measure comes after weeks of anti-war protests at the Los Angeles campus, with the pro-Palestinian encampment being the latest to be disbanded.

Recent events at USC have included the cancellation of a Muslim valedictorian's commencement speech due to safety concerns, which sparked further demonstrations. Subsequently, the university decided to cancel its main commencement ceremony altogether.

USC President Carol Folt engaged with encampment protesters in at least two meetings, presenting specific proposals aimed at addressing their concerns regarding the school's endowment. However, no agreement was reached between the two parties.
