The United States secured a gold medal in the men's 4x400 relay at the Tokyo Olympics, setting an Olympic record with a remarkable time of 2:54.44. The team's victory was sealed by Rai Benjamin, who showcased an outstanding performance just a day after claiming an individual gold in the men's 400-meter hurdle event.

Benjamin's exceptional run in the relay saw him outpace Botswana's gold medalist, Letsile Tebogo, who had earlier triumphed over Noah Lyles in the men's 200-meter final. Benjamin's final leg sprint proved decisive in securing the gold for the U.S., marking his second gold medal at the Tokyo Games.

The victory for the U.S. holds added significance as it came against Tebogo, who made comments about Lyles following his win in the 200-meter final. Tebogo subtly criticized Lyles, implying that he was 'arrogant' and 'loud.' Notably, Lyles had to settle for bronze in the 200-meter final after testing positive for COVID-19 and battling a high fever of 102 degrees.
