US Urges Israel To Comply With Humanitarian Law In Gaza

Gaza residents face crisis levels of hunger and soaring malnutrition

The United States government has engaged in urgent discussions with the Israeli government regarding the humanitarian situation in northern Gaza. State Department spokesperson emphasized the need for compliance with international humanitarian law to address the crisis.

The State Department expressed deep concern about the humanitarian conditions in Gaza, particularly in North Gaza. The discussions between the two governments have focused on the necessity of allowing essential humanitarian aid, including food and water, to reach all parts of Gaza.

While the US does not believe that Israel is deliberately withholding humanitarian assistance, it has reminded Israel of its obligations under international law. The US expects Israel to fulfill these obligations promptly to alleviate the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

The State Department spokesperson emphasized the urgency of the situation and the importance of rectifying it to facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid. The possibility of a policy change was hinted at if the situation does not improve.

The response of the Israeli government to these discussions was not disclosed by the State Department.

Recent Israeli attacks in Gaza have resulted in a significant number of casualties, with thousands of Palestinians killed and injured. The Ministry of Health in Gaza reported that the attacks have led to a dire humanitarian situation in the region, exacerbated by the targeting of civilian infrastructure.

Israel has long maintained that Hamas militants use civilian buildings to shield themselves from Israeli strikes and to launch their own attacks. Hamas, on the other hand, has consistently denied these allegations.
