US Urges De-Escalation In Middle East Amid Rising Tensions

U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken returns to Washington, following a week-long trip aimed at calming tensions across the Middle East

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has called on all parties in the Middle East to exercise caution and avoid actions that could escalate the conflict in the region. This statement comes after Lebanon accused Israel of being behind a series of pager explosions targeting Hezbollah members.

During a news conference in Egypt, Blinken emphasized that the United States was not aware of or involved in the incidents and is currently gathering information and facts about the situation. He stressed the importance of all parties refraining from taking steps that could further inflame tensions in Gaza.

Standing alongside Egypt's Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty, Blinken reiterated the need for de-escalation and expressed concern that any escalation could push the Middle East towards a broader regional conflict. Abdelatty echoed these sentiments, condemning the attacks and emphasizing Egypt's support for Lebanon's sovereignty.

Egypt firmly opposes any unilateral actions that threaten Lebanon's sovereignty and stands in solidarity with the Lebanese government and people. Abdelatty warned against any attempts to undermine Lebanon's stability and reiterated Egypt's commitment to preserving peace and security in the region.
