US State Department Assisting Americans In Lebanon Amid Israeli Assault

People enter the State Department Building in Washington

About 6,000 Americans have reached out to the US State Department for further information about potentially departing Lebanon, as confirmed by a spokesperson on Tuesday. Not all individuals who have registered are actively seeking assistance to leave the country amidst the increasing Israeli assault.

The US government is currently collaborating with airlines to arrange additional flights with more seats for American citizens. The aim is to have these flights operational within the next few days to facilitate the departure of those who wish to leave.

During a State Department briefing, it was emphasized that US citizens in Lebanon are encouraged to register with the State Department for information, particularly regarding how to depart the country. The State Department is committed to providing citizens with the necessary information and assistance.

While many people are seeking information and exploring their options, it was noted that there are American citizens who have been residing in Lebanon for an extended period and may choose to remain in the country.

It was clarified that the US is currently not conducting evacuations of American citizens from Lebanon. The government has been engaged in prudent planning for several months but is relying on commercial options for now, as Beirut's airport remains open.

The spokesperson reiterated efforts to secure more seats for Americans on flights departing from Beirut, underscoring the ongoing commitment to assisting US citizens in Lebanon during this challenging time.
