US State Department Announces Record Number Of Aid Trucks To Gaza

Trucks carrying aid arrive in Gaza

The US State Department revealed that a record-breaking 304 aid trucks entered Gaza in a single day, marking the highest number since the conflict began. This significant increase in aid delivery was highlighted as a positive development by State Department officials.

During a news briefing, a spokesperson emphasized the importance of sustaining this momentum, with a target of 350 trucks entering Gaza daily by the end of the week. The US government intends to closely monitor Israel's efforts to facilitate aid delivery through the newly established deconfliction unit to ensure the safety of humanitarian workers.

While plans were initially set for humanitarian goods to flow through the Erez crossing on Sunday, logistical preparations are still underway to accommodate the influx of aid trucks. Israel recently approved the reopening of the Erez crossing following pressure from US President Joe Biden to enhance aid access.

Gaza is currently grappling with a severe hunger crisis, with projections indicating that half of the population could face catastrophic hunger by mid-July. The dire situation has left all 2.2 million residents struggling to meet their basic food requirements.

The urgency of the situation underscores the critical need for sustained and increased humanitarian aid deliveries to Gaza to avert a humanitarian catastrophe.
