Steve Witkoff, the US special envoy to the Middle East, is actively involved in the Trump administration's efforts to secure peace in both Gaza and Ukraine. Today, Witkoff provided updates on the current situations in both regions.
Gaza Ceasefire:
Witkoff expressed confidence in the continuation of the uneasy ceasefire and hostage exchange deal between Israel and Hamas. He mentioned that phase two of the ceasefire, which includes the return of 19 Israel Defense Forces soldiers and American citizen Edan Alexander, is set to begin. Witkoff emphasized the complexity of bringing both sides together, as phase two also involves Hamas no longer being part of the Gaza government.
Ukraine War Negotiations:

Witkoff revealed that he is leading a US delegation to Saudi Arabia to initiate talks with senior Moscow officials aimed at ending Russia's war in Ukraine. He described these upcoming negotiations as a step towards building trust with the ultimate goal of ending the conflict. Witkoff addressed criticism regarding Ukraine's exclusion from the Saudi Arabia talks, highlighting President Trump's communication with Ukrainian President Zelensky and ongoing engagement between high-level US and Ukrainian officials.
Witkoff emphasized the inclusive nature of the negotiations, stating that the goal is to involve all relevant parties in the peace process. His efforts reflect the administration's commitment to addressing complex geopolitical challenges and working towards sustainable solutions in the Middle East.
