During a meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Tel Aviv, US Republican Senator Lindsey Graham of South Carolina reassured Israel of unwavering support from the United States. Graham emphasized that Israel can always count on America, especially during challenging times like the present.
Graham, on his fifth visit to Israel since October, expressed solidarity with Israel amidst various challenges it faces. He specifically addressed the recent actions of the International Criminal Court (ICC) seeking an arrest warrant for Netanyahu, promising to hold the ICC accountable. Graham also criticized the International Court of Justice (ICJ) for ordering Israel to halt its ground offensive in Rafah, dismissing the ICJ as a 'joke.'
The US lawmaker's visit comes in the aftermath of an airstrike in Rafah that resulted in the deaths of at least 45 individuals in a displaced persons camp. Despite calls for a change in US policy following the incident, the White House confirmed that President Joe Biden has no immediate plans to alter support for Israel.
However, the National Security Council spokesman reiterated Biden's stance on re-evaluating US assistance to Israel in the event of a significant ground offensive in Rafah. Biden had previously indicated a willingness to halt certain arms shipments to Israel if civilian casualties occurred due to military actions in Gaza.
Senator Graham's visit and reassurances underscore the enduring bond between the United States and Israel, with both nations reaffirming their commitment to each other's security and well-being.
