The United States has taken measures to ensure the security of its embassy in Syria following the collapse of the Assad government, according to a State Department spokesperson. The US had suspended operations at its embassy in Damascus back in February 2012 and had no diplomatic relations with the Assad regime. The Czech Republic had been serving as the US protecting power in Syria, but it had also vacated the embassy in the Syrian capital.
Although the embassy is currently not staffed, the State Department assured that it has been secured. The spokesperson mentioned that while there are no US personnel present, arrangements have been made to engage with local parties to safeguard the embassy and prevent any breaches. These precautionary steps have been taken to maintain the security of the embassy in Syria.
