US Secretary Of State Discusses Regional De-Escalation With Israel

U.S. Secretary of State Blinken visits Ukraine

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken recently engaged in discussions with Israel’s Strategic Affairs Minister, Ron Dermer, regarding the necessary steps for regional de-escalation. This conversation followed a meeting between top White House officials and Israeli leaders, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

The talks come amidst ongoing military campaigns by Israel in Lebanon and Gaza, with the United Nations expressing concerns about the dire situation in northern Gaza. Additionally, Iran has issued warnings of potential responses against Israel, possibly before the upcoming US election.

Blinken emphasized the importance of ending the conflict in Gaza, ensuring the safe return of hostages, and planning for governance, security, and reconstruction in the post-conflict period. He also highlighted the critical humanitarian conditions in Gaza, urging increased efforts to provide aid to civilians.

Last month, Blinken issued a letter to the Israeli government, setting a 30-day deadline to address the humanitarian crisis in Gaza or face potential consequences on military aid.

The discussions between Blinken and Dermer also touched on diplomatic efforts to resolve the situation in Lebanon, aiming to facilitate the safe return of both Lebanese and Israeli civilians to their homes.

The State Department reaffirmed the United States’ unwavering commitment to Israel’s security against threats from Iran and Iran-backed groups.
