The US Secret Service is taking significant steps to enhance security ahead of former President Donald Trump's upcoming campaign rally, following a recent failed assassination attempt on his life. Sources familiar with the planning revealed that security arrangements for Trump's future events are being completely reevaluated, including the consideration of holding events in more secure outdoor locations or indoors.

Law enforcement officials have expressed concerns about potential copycat incidents and individuals who may be inspired to carry out further attacks after the recent failed attempt on Trump's life. As a result, security measures for Trump's rallies, including the upcoming one in Grand Rapids, Michigan, have been intensified.

Local law enforcement agencies, in collaboration with the Secret Service, have increased the number of officers dedicated to securing the event. For instance, the Kent County Sheriff's Office in Michigan received a last-minute request for 50 to 60 officers to assist with rally security.

Security protocols around Trump have been significantly altered in recent days, with heightened measures observed during his recent appearance at the Republican National Convention. Notably, a New Jersey law enforcement helicopter circled the Newark airport multiple times until Trump's arrival, ensuring his safety.

Security around Trump's Mar-a-Lago residence has also been bolstered, with new road closures announced by the Palm Beach Police Department. These closures will remain in effect 24/7 until at least the November general election in 2024.

The recent shooting incident has prompted increased coordination between local and federal law enforcement agencies to address security gaps and enhance communication. After-action reports from such incidents lead to immediate adjustments in security protocols for future events, focusing on aspects like entrance and exit strategies, buffer zone expansion, and overall public safety measures.

The upcoming rally in Grand Rapids will mark the first official campaign event with both Trump and Republican Vice Presidential nominee Sen. JD Vance. While Michigan State Police did not disclose specific security procedures, they affirmed their readiness to support the Secret Service in ensuring a secure environment for the event.

The Secret Service declined to comment on the specific security arrangements for the rally or Trump's security details.
