US Rapper Redveil displays names of children killed in Gaza, calls for ceasefire

US rapper Redveil displayed the names of children killed in Gaza as he used a set at Tyler the Creator’s Camp Flog Gnaw Carnival music festival to call for a ceasefire.

The festival took place over the weekend at Dodger Stadium, in Los Angeles, and was headlined by artists including SZA, Kendrick Lamar and Tyler the Creator.

The rapper, wearing the Palestinian traditional scarf, the Keffiyeh, called for an end to violence in Gaza, where more than 11, 000 people have been killed due to Israel’s ongoing strikes and ground invasion since Hamas attacked on October 7.

He displayed the names of the children killed in Gaza by Israeli strikes on a large screen behind him. More than 4000 children are believed to have been killed.

Footage from the festival shows Redveil pointing to the screen as he says: “Behind me is a list of names of Palestinians that's been killed in Gaza since October 7. Nobody on this fucking list made it to the age of four.”

He said: “I know if you’re fucking human, you’re gonna feel somebody saying this shit. It’s not complicated. Don’t nobody tell you that shit.”

He directed his audience to a website, Ceasefire Today, which offers prompts to contact Congress, sign petitions and find local protests, urging them to call their reps and demand a ceasefire.

The rapper said: “Call your reps, demand a ceasefire.” On X, he encouraged other artists to “speak up.”

“If you don’t have service, take a picture, write it down, alright.” He then led the crowd in a chant of “free Palestine.”

Several people on X agreed with his message. One user said: “What Redveil did at Camp Flog Gnaw was a true stand up and brave move. That’s respect."

Another said: “An awesome thing about this is Redveil said this was the biggest audience they have ever performed for. A major career moment and chose to do something that could jeopardize it.”

Redveil’s message comes after a growing number of influencers and celebrities have been calling for a ceasefire. A group of almost 250 actors, comedians, artists and models in the entertainment industry united under Artists4Ceasefire and urged President Joe Biden to end Israel’s attack on Gaza in a letter.

The group said in their letter: “We come together as artists and advocates, but most importantly as human beings witnessing the devastating loss of lives and unfolding horror in Israel and Palestine.”

Israel’s attack on Gaza still continues, with nearly 200,000 people fleeing northern Gaza, according to the UN.
