A US porn actor recently made a trip to Afghanistan, a move that was not acknowledged by the Taliban, who have imposed strict morality laws and restricted the rights of women and girls since taking control in 2021. Whitney Wright, known for causing controversy with a visit to Iran last year during a crackdown on women, shared images of her journey to Taliban-controlled Afghanistan on her Instagram account.
The photos included scenes of a plane from national carrier Ariana on a runway, a tiled ceiling from the city of Herat, supermarket items, and vehicles. Notably, Wright did not appear in any of the images. Despite attempts to reach her for comment, she did not respond to messages from The Associated Press.
The Taliban, in an effort to attract tourists and showcase a different side of the country, have been welcoming foreigners, with a decrease in violence contributing to the growing interest in visiting Afghanistan. As a US citizen born in Oklahoma City, Wright would have required a visa to enter Afghanistan. However, with no operational Afghan embassies or consulates in the US, obtaining the necessary documentation would have posed a challenge.

The US State Department strongly advises against travel to Afghanistan for any reason, citing civil unrest, crime, terrorism, kidnapping, and limited healthcare facilities as significant risks. Additionally, there is a concern for the wrongful detention of US nationals in the country.
Wright's travels have taken her to other conflict-affected regions in recent years, including Iraq, Syria, and Lebanon. The exact purpose of her visit to Afghanistan and the implications of her actions remain unclear amidst the complex political and social landscape of the region.
