US Open pairings as Rory McIlroy to play alongside Brooks Koepka for opening two rounds

The US Open tees up this week as the third major of the golfing season takes place at Los Angeles Country Club.

It is another chance for Rory McIlroy to get back on the major trail, some nine years after the Holywood man's last success.

There will be plenty of eyes on McIlroy's group when the US Open gets under way on Thursday. That's because the Ulsterman has been paired with LIV Golf star Brooks Koepka.

They will play alongside former Masters champion Hideki Matsuyama in Los Angeles on Thursday and Friday.

Koepka - who joined LIV Golf last year - claimed his fifth major last month when he won the US PGA Championship, overtaking McIlory's major tally of four.

There has been some history between the pair, with Koepka previously stating that he didn't view McIlroy as a rival as he hadn't won a major since 2014.

He said in 2019: "I've been out here for, what, five years. Rory hasn't won a major since I've been on the PGA Tour. So I just don't view it as a rivalry. I'm not looking at anybody behind me."

McIlroy will begin his round at 9.54pm UK time on Thursday, while Shane Lowry, who plays alongside Justin Thomas and Tommy Fleetwood, scheduled to start at 3.40pm.

Padraig Harrington will play alongside LIV Golf's Phil Mickelson and Keegan Bradley. Their round commences at 8.59pm.
