Update: US Open Final Round Leaderboard and Live Updates
Bryson DeChambeau will tee off in the final round of the US Open with a three-shot lead after a fine -3 round to get to -7.
DeChambeau thrilled the galleries with some trademark fist-pumps and bold attacking play on day three. The 2020 US Open champion thrived despite needing treatment for a hip injury mid-round.
The American's efforts left him three shots ahead of Patrick Cantlay , Rory McIlroy and Matthieu Pavon. DeChambeau closed out his round well with a birdie on the 17th after a sloppy double bogey on the 16th.
DeChambeau , 30, said: "The 16th was a bit of a bummer but I gave it everything I had. I am putting brilliantly and just have to keep that going. I have to keep hitting fairways and greens. The crowd were fantastic and hopefully I can give the fans something special."
Ludvig Aberg went backwards on day three and is five shots adrift after he had a nightmare triple bogey seven on the short tricky par four 13th which also stung Tony Finau badly.

On Saturday at the PGA Championship last month, Shane Lowry had a putt to card a 62 - the lowest ever round in major championship history.
That record isn't under threat today, but Shane has notched back-to-back birdies after holing out from the greenside bunker on the 7th hole.

Clanton held this birdie putt on 13 to momentarily trim Neal Shipley's lead to one in the race for the low amateur title.
However, moments later over on the 8th, Shipley (+2) restored his two shot lead after rolling in a 25ft birdie putt.
The third amateur, Gunnar Broin (+5), has bounced back from a double bogey on the 5th with a birdie on the 6th.

It hasn't been his week, and he's began to lose his cool.

Scheffler completes his third round
He is round in 71. He is +6 for the tournament. He made birdies at 8 and 11. Yesterday he did not make a birdie. It was the first time he has failed to make a birdie in a round during a Major in his professional days. The last time, before yesterday, that a World No 1 played a birdie-less Major round was Luke Donald at the U.S. Open 12 years ago.
Is this the shortlist from which the winner will come?
All of the last 16 Major winners, and 26 of the last 28 US Open winners, were within three shots of the lead after the second round. So here is a reminder of the top of the leaderboard at halfway:

But one of those two US Open of the past 28 years when the winner was not within three shots of the lead was at Pinehurst in 2005. Michael Campbell was four shots behind at that stage. The other Pinehurst US Open winners - Payne Stewart in 1999 and Martin Kaymer in 2014 – led at halfway.
Incidentally the furthest back, in terms of shots, a winner has come from the halfway stage is 11 shots – Lou Graham (pictured with with his wife, Patsy, and daughter Louanne) was this far behind in 1975 at Medinah. But won in playoff.
Finished scores today
Eighteen players are now in the clubhouse and scores have been as high as 79. Only one man has been round in under par so far – the amateur Luke Clanton, who found 12 of 13 fairways and lies T36 on +4. Fellow amateur Neal Shipley is on +3 with three holes to go.
HOW FAST ARE THESE GREENS?
Well according to the USGA, today’s greens range from the mid 13s to 14 feet on the stimpmeter and will settle to the low to mid 13s as the day goes on.

He finishes with a birdie and punches the air in delight. He has not dropped a shot today. He also made birdies on 1, 11 and 13. He is now level par for the tournament having gone 70-74-66.
CONNERS DRIVES AND HOLDS THE GREEN ON PAR-4 3RD
The tee has been moved up. When measured to the turn point the hole is playing 323 yards but as the crow flies, the hole it is 316 yards. This means it is in reach off the tee by all the field. However only three men have managed to get the ball on to the green off the tee and for the ball to stay there. Could this be the first eagle on this hole? There have been two eagles so far, both on the par-5 5th. As I type Conners holes his 10ft eagle putt.

Rory and that elusive fifth Major win
Can McIlroy win that fifth Major? He has been marooned on four Major wins for a long time now. Bizarrely so, for he has remained one of the top players during that period and won many tournaments. Just none of them has been a Major. The last time he won one of those was nearly ten years ago – it was August 10th 2014 at the PGA Championship at Valhalla. The only US Open McIlroy has won was 14 year ago.
A win for the world number three tomorrow would therefore smash two records: for the longest period between someone winning his fourth and fifth Majors (currently seven years, held by Peter Thomson, 1958-1965) and the longest period between US Open victories (currently 11 years, set by by Julius Boros, 1952-63, and Hale Irwin 1979-90.)

DeChambeau is over the back of the green but makes an excellent up and down. Aberg's is a more regulation two-putt par.
The Amateur battle
One of the competitions within-a-competition is the Gold medal for the low amateur. Three amateurs have made it through to the weekend and all have finished their third rounds, and this is how they lie for the tournament:

Broin shot 81 today, after his 68 yesterday. Clanton carded a 69 and Shipley a 71 today and this pair are tied in 31st.
No longer a minor part of the Majors
For all its fame, this is only the fourth US Open to be held at Pinehurst, but the sixth Major. The PGA Championship was held here in 1936, and the US Women’s Open in 2014. That year Pinehurst also held the men’s US Open, and the winners were Michelle Wie and Martin Kaymer. In five years’ time Pinehurst again will be the venue for both the men’s and women’s US Opens.
The first US Open to be played here was in 1999 and, as Tom Pashley, President of Pinehurst Resort explains, there were reservations about whether Pinehurst was a suitable venue: “There were lots of question marks – small town, remote, not a lot of roads, not a lot of infrastructure… to think that 25 years later we are an anchor site is something to be super-proud of.”
The USGA has decided that the course will be one of its three anchor sites, which would host the US Open every 5-7 years. The idea is to allow these clubs to invest in long-term planning for hosting Major events. Mr Pashley explains, that “the US Open will come on a regular basis means we can have a blueprint that we can tweak every time rather than creating something new every time.”
Alongside Pinehurst, the other two anchor sites are Pebble Beach and Oakmont.

A debut to remember?
Ludvig Åberg has just opened up a two-shot lead with a birdie on 3.
He was just the third player since World War II to hold the 36-hole lead on his US Open debut. Neither of the other two, Gene Littler, who led by two shots in 1954, and TC Chen, who lead by a shot in 1985, won. Both finished as runners up. No player has won on their US. Open debut since Francis Ouimet at Brookline in 1913.
In so doing, Ouimet had helped popularise golf in the US and earned him the nickname “the father of American amateur golf”. Until then golf was viewed as a minority elitist British sport played by ex pats and upper class Americans, or else by the rather looked-down-upon golf pros. But Ouimet, an amateur golfer from a modest background, did not fit any of these categories.
Francis Ouimet grew up in a house opposite Brookline Country Club. His family were far from well off, and he started caddying at the club when he was 11 years old. Young caddies were part of the scene then as anyone who caddied beyond the age of 16 was deemed to be a professional golfer. Professional golfers were rather looked down in many circles as members of the working class and, with little by way prizemoney to be won in those days, becoming a professional golfer, or being classified as one, was not attractive to most players.
Although the US Open was to be played on the course he new best, Ouimet felt he could not spare more time off work to play in the US Open as he had already taken time off work to play in the US Amateur Championship. But the President of the USGA persuaded Ouimet to change his mind.
The US Open that year had been moved from June to September to allow British golfers Harry Vardon and Ted Ray, stars of the game, to play in it. After the 72 holes of regular play, Ouimet was tied with Ray and Vardon for the lead. It went to an 18-hole playoff, which Ouimet won by five shots.
Ouimet’s caddie when he won the US Open was the 10-year old Eddie Lowery, Lowery went on to become a multi-millionaire car dealer and sponsor of golfers. He and Ouimet became lifelong friends and Lowery was one of the pallbearers at Ouimet’s funeral in 1967.
Ouimet went on to win the US Amateur twice and become the first non-Brit to be elected captain of the R&A. He was one of the four original inductees to the World Golf Hall of Fame.

Big – and little – names missing today
Among the big names not to have made the cut – Woods, Mickelson, Hovland, Thomas et al - is a, well as yet anyway, little name – Sam Bairstow. The 25-year-old English left hander was playing in his first US Open, and his first Major as a professional – he had twice played The Open as an amateur. He is not here after shooting 67 yesterday- 67 round Pinehurst’s feared No 2 course and they haven’t let him stay. Hardly seems fair does it, especially as it seems he was belatedly getting the hang of it. He shot 84 in the first round, to be plumb last. So he was improving at the rate of 17 shots per round. So, if he continued on that trajectory, he would have shattered the course record today and, well he’d hardly be playing any shots tomorrow.
This improvement between the first and second rounds is not even a US Open record. That stands at 19 shots, achieved by no fewer than four people, the last of whom was Earl Puckett in 1965 when he went 93-74.
Bairstow’s Christian names are Samuel John Acer. Acer is rather appropriate name for a golfer. Sadly I don’t have any stats as to how many aces he may or may not have made in his career, but I hope it is at least one so he can live up to his name. Mind you, living up to names is not always easy – mine means famous ruler.

Tony Finau had joined Pavon on -4 in second when he birdied the par-5 5th. There have been 31 birdies and thre eagles on that hole today.
Then Aberg drops a shot on the 527-yard 4th when he cannot reach the green two after finding sand with his drive.

He finds the bunker on the par-3 6th, chips out and two putts.

PAVON LOOKING COOL UNDER PRESSURE BUT FACES BIG TEST ON 9TH
Pavon has just made par on the par 4 eighth and is looking calm and composed despite the hot temperatures. He has followed that up by finding the ninth green with a 177-yard shot but he is now 62 feet above the hole and the Frenchman will have a treacherous putt which he dribbles to eight feet away and curls in the side door.
ABERG AND DECHAMBEAU DRILL APPROACHES CLOSE AT SEVENTH
The par 4 7th is 417 yards today but both Aberg and DeChambeau will have a good look at birdies there. Aberg went first and put his approach to 20 feet. Bryson , who is also level par today, put his to 11 foot. The Swede's effort slides by but DeChambeau drains his. The pair are now level at -5.

PAVON CHIPS ON TO PAR 5 10TH AND WILL HAVE A BIRDIE PUTT
Pavon will have a chance to extend his lead on the 10th after chipping up to 11 feet with his third. His effort for 4 just misses on the left side but he makes par.
DECHAMBEAU AND ABERG LOOK SET FOR PARS AT THE EIGHTH
DeChambeau has a birdie look on the 496-yard par 4 eighth after a 375-yard drive. His putt comes up short but both he and playing partner Aberg have short tap-ins to stay -5.
PAVON HAS FOUND THE FAIRWAY WITH A 304-YARD DRIVE ON 11TH
Pavon has 173 yards to hole on the par 4 11th as he continues to look very composed. His hard work practising appears to be paying off...like his famous tattoo says: "the saliva that flows now will become the tears of joy tomorrow." His approach on this occasion comes up short and the Frenchman then takes three putts to slip back to -5.
DRAMA ON THE PAR 5 10TH FOR FINAU AND McILROY
McIlroy and Finau both used their strength to muscle the ball up around the green on the par 5 10th in two shots. However the pair had to settle for 5s after Finau's putt from the off the green came back to him on a huge slope while McIlroy struggled in the sand.
INJURY CONCERNS FOR BRYSON
Co-leader Bryson DeChambeau has just put a shout out for a physio amid concerns about his right hip. He has just teed off on the 10th with a 348-yard bomb on to the fairway after playing partner Aberg dropped a shot on the par 3 ninth.
ABERG WILL HAVE AN EAGLE PUTT ON THE 10TH
Fresh from dropping a shot on the par 3 ninth, Aberg is likely to pull at least a shot back on the next hole as he has hit an outrageously good fairway wood from 286 yards to 10 feet. And judging by this picture, his caddie knows it is good. His eagle putt never broke but he has a tap in birdie as DeChambeau makes a birdie from the sand.

BRYSON TAKES A BREAK FOR TREATMENT
Bryson took a medical break for treatment on his right hip before teeing off on the 11th and powering a 359-yard drive down the middle of the fairway. He then wedged on to the green and holed an 13-footer for birdie. Cue fist pumps. The guy is box office.

FINAU EXPERIENCING UNLUCKY 13TH WITH HORROR SHOW
Finau has had a nightmare on the par 4 13th. He found the fairway but his approach from 100 yards spun back off the green and he then putted over the back of the green into a bunker! From where he splashed out only for the ball to roll straight back to where he had come from. This time he has pitched up, missed the putt and will finally hole out for triple bogey 7. All from having a half wedge in!
MORIKAWA SHOOTS UP LEADERBOARD
Collin Morikawa has been in fine form and was highly-fancied for this event. He started day 3 in 51st place but is into the top 10 after a -4 round of 66 to get to even par.
McILROY HAS A TAP IN FOR BIRDIE ON THE 14TH TO GET TO -6
McIlroy has been very solid today and has hit a wedge from 113 yards to 23 inches on the 461-yard par four 14th. That is almost a gimme. A certain birdie will take him to -6 - one behind Bryson after earlier get a birdie on the 12th.

He is leading the US Open at -7 and has been having a laugh with the fans on the 13th tee. Bryson told them he would love to hit his driver but apologised as he opted for an iron, which he has dumped into the rough. He may regret now having banter with the gallery and perhaps losing some focus. However he then hit a stunning shot from 149 yards in the sand to six foot but has to settle for par.

Tony Finau is not alone today in toiling on the 13th. He ran up a 7 earlier after going over the back into a bunker and then off the front again. Now Aberg has done the same and has just had to chip back on to the green with his fifth shot as he also ends up with a 7.
BRYSON WITH ANOTHER BIRDIE LOOK ON 14
DeChambeau missed the 14th fairway off the tee but has hit another brilliant rescue shot from the pine needles 134 yards out to nine feet which he duly curls in to prompt more fist pumps. He is now -5 for his last 10 holes. Fantastic.
McILROY DROPS A SLOPPY SHOT AT THE 180-YARD PAR 3 17TH
McIlroy missed the par 3 17th green with a nine iron which left him a horrible bunker shot as he splashed out and then missed the putt. DeChambeau now has a four-shot lead.
PAVON IS IN THE CLUBHOUSE AND CAN BE HAPPY WITH HIS ROUND
Pavon has shot a -1 round of 69 and is -4 in total. He found the back nine tough with two bogeys but held a number of clutch par putts to limit the damage. I'll be surprised if he wins but he is a gritty competitor for sure.
HATTON SPEAKS TO PRESS AFTER HIS ROUND
Tyrrell Hatton is -1 in total after a level par 70 today. He has been speaking after his round in which he hit 16 out of 18 greens in regulation he claimed. "I have played well and hopefully I can see some putts go in tomorrow."
McILROY HOLES OUT FOR A -1 ROUND WITH A PAR ON THE LAST
McIlroy is in the clubhouse on -4 in total after a -1 round today. Rory had several looks at birdie but he will need his putter to be hotter tomorrow.
POOR ERROR FROM DECHAMBEAU ON 16TH WILL OPEN DOOR
DeChambeau has a bogey putt from eight foot on the 16th after he missed the green with his second and his chip rolled back off the green. He then missed his putt and records a double bogey. Ouch
GREAT RESPONSE FROM DECHAMBEAU ON PAR 3 17TH
Fresh from his double bogey at the 16th, DeChambeau has parked his frustrations and drilled a fabulous tee shot at the par 3 17th from 179 yards to 11 feet which he curls in from right to left. Great bounce back.

McIlroy off to work on his iron play after struggling on par 3s
McIlroy, whose three dropped shots all came at the par 3s, said: "I am really excited for tomorrow. I am going to go to the range to try and figure out a couple of loose shots. It is a grind. The US Open feels like you play two golf tournaments in one week. I am going to get ready for one more day of grinding tomorrow."
DeChambeau hits his driver 341 yards to open up approach at 18th
DeChambeau has missed the fairway on the left at the last but has just 104 yards in from the left rough. Aberg, who is on the fairway, is +3 today but the pair both find the green to have birdie putts from 42 and 27 feet respectively. They miss but tap in for pars as DeChambeau signs for a -3 round of 67.
