Dorothy Shea, U.S. ambassador to Lebanon, meets with Lebanon's caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati, in Beirut

The US State Department has issued a statement regarding the recent series of pager explosions in Lebanon, emphasizing that the US was not involved in the incident and was not aware of it in advance. A State Department spokesperson stated that they are currently gathering information about the situation.

While Hezbollah and Lebanon have accused Israel of being responsible for the attack, the US has refrained from making any assessments on the matter. The Israel Defense Forces have not commented on the allegations.

The State Department spokesperson highlighted the importance of a diplomatic solution to the conflict in northern Israel involving Hezbollah. They also stressed the need for a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas to facilitate diplomatic efforts in the region.

Regarding potential Iranian involvement, the spokesperson stated that they would not speculate until reports are confirmed. The US urged Iran not to exploit the situation to escalate tensions in the region.

The spokesperson reiterated the US's commitment to promoting stability and resolving conflicts through diplomatic means. They emphasized the interconnected nature of the conflicts in Gaza and northern Israel, underscoring the significance of a Gaza ceasefire in facilitating a resolution in the north.

As the situation continues to unfold, the US State Department is actively gathering information through diplomatic channels and other sources. The spokesperson refrained from commenting on how the attack might impact ceasefire talks, emphasizing the need for a comprehensive approach to resolving conflicts in the region.
