The US Navy’s Supervisor of Salvage and Diving (SUPSALV) is leading salvage operations for the Francis Scott Key Bridge, as confirmed by a spokesperson on Thursday.
The team is currently in the process of mobilizing essential equipment for the operation, including a 1000-ton lift capacity derrick barge, a 400-ton lift capacity revolving crane barge, and a 160T revolving crane, along with support vessels.
SUPSALV, in collaboration with contracted support, will focus on salvaging and removing submerged portions of the Francis Scott Key Bridge to ensure safety and restore functionality.
Additionally, the Navy has deployed resources to aid in the search and rescue efforts following the bridge collapse. This includes a MH-60S Seahawk from Naval Air Station Patuxent River and one small boat from the Navy Reserve Center Baltimore, both dispatched on March 26.
The coordinated efforts of SUPSALV and the Navy demonstrate a swift and effective response to the incident, prioritizing the safety of individuals and the restoration of critical infrastructure.
