As the government prepares the US Naval Base at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, to house migrants, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem stated on Sunday that the plan is not to hold them there indefinitely. Noem emphasized that the intention is to adhere to the legal process and ensure that individuals are handled appropriately according to the law.
The Trump administration is in the process of expanding the government's holding capacity by utilizing military bases and Guantanamo Bay. However, due to space constraints, it is expected that the expansion will fall short of the initial goal of accommodating 30,000 people.
When questioned about the possibility of women, children, or families being held at Guantanamo Bay's migrant facility, Noem indicated that the administration will utilize the existing facilities for this purpose.
In response to President Trump's recent tariffs announcement, Noem acknowledged that prices could potentially increase. She attributed any price hikes to the reactions of other countries to America's trade policies.
