US-Iran prisoner swap: A sign of better relations between the two countries?

This week, five US citizens freed from prison in Iran were able to embrace their loved ones back home. Under the deal brokered by Qatar, five Iranians detained in the United States were also released. The agreement included the unfreezing of nearly $6 billion in Iranian assets. So is the deal a sign of warming ties between Washington and Tehran? We put the question to David Smith, Washington bureau chief for the Guardian.

Also, the United Auto Workers union is preparing for more strikes in the United States. The threat of escalation will no doubt ramp up pressure on Ford, General Motors and Stellantis, the big three carmakers. They are meanwhile warning of layoffs to come as the strike impacts supply chains.

Finally, India has issued a travel warning to Canada. The latest move from New Delhi is likely to ratchet up tensions with Ottawa. Relations between the two sides plunged to a new low after Canada's Prime Minister Justin Trudeau alleged India was behind the murder of a Canadian citizen on its soil.
