Richard Grenell, President Donald Trump’s envoy for special missions, is currently in Venezuela on a very specific special mission. The focus of this mission is on the repatriation of Venezuelan criminals and gang members, as well as the release of detained Americans. This was confirmed by US State Department Special Envoy for Latin America, Mauricio Claver-Carone.
During a call with reporters, Claver-Carone emphasized the importance of Grenell's demands to Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro. He stated that there would be consequences if these demands are not met.

Claver-Carone highlighted that Grenell's trip is centered on two key issues. Firstly, the expectation that Venezuelan criminals and gangs will be returned without conditions, as is customary with every country. Secondly, the immediate and unequivocal release of American hostages.
Claver-Carone clarified that this is not a negotiation or quid pro quo situation. He emphasized that the US does not seek Venezuelan oil in exchange for these demands.
