Everyone loves a party but some, it seems, much more so than others. In a new global ranking of the 112 wildest cities in the world, the US nabs six of the top ten spots with the other four taken by cities in the UK and France.
Based on a variety of factors including the number of nightlife venues relative to the city’s population as well as the amount of booze, cannabis and cocaine consumed, MoveHub has researched and revealed the most debauched metropolis on Earth, and it goes to Manchester in the UK.
The UK’s famed music city is also the world’s most hedonistic. With 818 nightlife venues and 2.3 metric tons of weed smoked for every 100,000 people, Manchester (or ‘Madchester’ as it was appropriately nicknamed in the Britpop heyday of the 90s) residents drank an average 11.6 litres of booze per person annually with 2.25% of them also taking cocaine. UK capital London came a lowly 30th in the global list – not that that’s anything to be ashamed of!
Topping the US hedonism charts and taking second place worldwide is the capital, Washington DC. With 240 nightlife venues and 1.03 metric tons of cannabis smoked per 100,000 residents, and 9.2 litres of alcohol consumed per person it’s well below Manchester in every category except cocaine use, where it tops out with 2.3% of the city’s population indulging.
Rounding out the top ten, Miami takes third place, Seattle fourth, San Francisco fifth, Leeds in the UK sixth, Denver seventh and Boston eighth before we head back to Europe where France joins the party with Paris in ninth and Lyon tenth. Perhaps unsurprising considering their joie de vivre, the French cities scored particularly highly in the drink department with each averaging a stomach-churning 12.2 litres of booze per person annually.
So the next time you’re looking to party while on vacation, you know where to go. Alternatively of course, you could just dip a toe in to the party scene and enjoy the other, more salubrious attractions every city on the list also has to offer.
