US Congressman Meeks: Ukraine Aid Delay Contributed To Russian Aggression

Ukraine's President Zelenskiy visits an artillery training centre at an undisclosed location in Ukraine

Democratic Congressman Gregory Meeks from New York, ranking member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee and a senior member of the House Financial Services Committee, expressed concerns over the delayed military aid to Ukraine during a recent interview. Meeks highlighted the impact of the delay on Ukraine's ability to defend itself against Russian aggression.

Meeks emphasized the importance of providing timely aid to Ukraine, stating that the delay had allowed Russia to make significant advances on the ground. He noted that the unity between the United States and its allies was crucial in supporting Ukraine's defense efforts.

Despite the initial reluctance from some members of Congress to approve the aid package, Meeks reassured that the $62 billion package had been put forward to support Ukraine. He underscored the strength of NATO and the collective effort needed to counter Russian aggression.

Meeks acknowledged the concerns of American allies regarding the delayed aid but expressed confidence that the United States would stand by its commitments. He stressed the need to prevent Russia from further aggression in Ukraine and reiterated the importance of supporting Ukraine with the necessary weapons.

Looking ahead, Meeks remained optimistic about Ukraine's ability to push back against Russian forces once they received the required weapons. He believed that the support from the United States and its allies would help Ukraine reverse the aggression and maintain its resilience in the face of ongoing conflict.
