US Coast Guard Rescues 82-Year-Old Man During Tropical Storm Debby

Coast Guard Philippine Coast Guard flyby over the South China Sea

The US Coast Guard in Charleston successfully rescued an 82-year-old man on Tuesday from a disabled sailboat amidst Tropical Storm Debby, as reported by the agency.

According to a release from the Coast Guard Sector Charleston, the rescue operation was initiated after watchstanders received a distress call at 7:45 a.m. from the insurance company of a 32-foot sailing vessel. The call indicated that the owner was in need of assistance to relocate his vessel to a safe haven due to engine problems and difficulty in raising the anchor alone.

Upon further communication with the distressed sailor, it was revealed that the vessel had sustained a large hole on its side and was also taking on water, adding to the urgency of the situation.

The Coast Guard promptly responded to the distress call and successfully assisted the man in raising the vessel's anchor and safely moving it to the marina, averting a potential disaster.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported during the entire incident, highlighting the professionalism and efficiency of the Coast Guard in handling emergency situations even amidst challenging weather conditions.
