The US Department of Defense (DoD) recently revealed two significant weapons packages for Ukraine, totaling $2.47 billion. The first package, known as the Presidential Drawdown Authority package, has an estimated value of $1.25 billion. This package aims to equip Ukraine with essential capabilities to address its urgent needs, including missiles for air defense, munitions for rocket systems and artillery, and anti-tank weapons.
Additionally, the DoD announced a separate Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative (USAI) package worth approximately $1.22 billion. This package is designed to provide Ukraine with enhanced air defense, air-to-ground capabilities, Unmanned Aerial Systems, and other resources to combat Russian aggression.
These aid packages are being offered at a time when the national debt tracker has surpassed $36 billion as of December 26. The DoD has outlined the capabilities of these packages, which include missile systems, missiles, munitions, ammunition, anti-armor systems, medical equipment, and more.
This marks the twenty-third USAI package and the seventy-third tranche of equipment provided by the Biden Administration for Ukraine since August 2021. The United States, in collaboration with 50 Allies and partners through the Ukraine Defense Contact Group and its associated Capability Coalitions, continues to extend support to Ukraine in its efforts to counter Russian aggression.
