US President Joe Biden's top national security aide engaged in discussions with his Israeli counterpart on Sunday regarding concerns about a potential offensive in Rafah. National security adviser Jake Sullivan conveyed President Biden’s longstanding worries about the possibility of a significant military ground operation in Rafah, as stated by the White House.
Sullivan and Tzachi Hanegbi explored alternatives to a city invasion to ensure the defeat of Hamas throughout Gaza. The White House reported that Hanegbi acknowledged Israel's consideration of U.S. concerns. Both officials agreed to organize an in-person meeting between U.S. and Israeli representatives in the near future to address Rafah and other pertinent matters.

The conversation took place on Israel's Memorial Day, with Sullivan highlighting that this is the first Memorial Day following the October 7 terror attacks. Discussions also revolved around initiatives to secure the release of hostages held by Hamas.
